Many patients have been wrongly told that they do not qualify for NHS continuing care payments. Mrs C was reimbursed a total of £40,000 (which included third party top ups by a family member) in past nursing home fees and was awarded continuing healthcare status for the future , resulting in savings of £671.48 per month. Even after someone dies, it may be possible to recover fees wrongly paid. For example; Mrs B was posthumously awarded continuing health care and her estate was awarded over £114,000 in wrongly paid nursing fees. Mrs E was posthumously awarded continuing helath care and her estate was awarded £20,000 in wrongly paid residential home fees.
